When it comes to having a fantastic day out in Hitchin, there is a lot to be said for enjoying the fun and excitement at Hitchin Swimming Centre. The swimming centre and the Archers Gym is located on Fishponds Road, less than 20 minutes’ walk from Hitchin Train Station.
There is car parking available at the centre, with extra parking available during busy periods at the nearby Hitchin Town Football Club and Lairage Multi-Storey Car Park in Bedford Road.
What are the Hitchin Swimming Centre opening hours?
For the main pool, the opening hours are 6.30am to 10.00pm Monday to Friday while at the weekend, the centre is open from 7.00am to 6.00pm. However, during the summer months, there is also an outdoor pool to enjoy. During the week, the outdoor pool opens at 8.00am and stays open to 6.30pm. At the weekend, the opening times are shorter, beginning at 8.00am and closing at 6.00pm.
The outdoor pool is heated and runs at a length of 50 metres. If we are fortunate enough to benefit from fantastic weather and pleasant temperatures this summer, the pool is likely to be one of the hotspots of the Hitchin summer with a sunbathing terrace running alongside the pool.
Of course, the indoor pool is hugely popular all year round. There are many classes for those looking for some guidance and lots of chances for those who enjoy a free swim.
The indoor pool runs at 25 metres and has eight lanes. Whether you are looking for an activity to enjoy with your child, or you wish to partake in Aqua Fit classes, there is something for everyone.
One of the most popular activities in the swim centre is the Learn To Swim programme. No matter your age or your swimming capabilities, the centre offers 50 weeks of a learn to swim programme each year. Therefore, there is an opportunity for everyone to develop confidence when swimming. Whether your focus is on fun or safety, learning to swim creates opportunities, and it should ensure you make more out of life.
If any of your children have a birthday this summer, why not book a pool party? There are RLSS qualified lifeguards in attendance to ensure everyone has a safe time. These parties feature the eliminator inflatable sessions that are hugely popular with local kids.
If you don’t want to book a children’s party, but you are interested in enjoying the fun of an eliminator inflatable session, you’ll find there are plenty of options to look out for during the school holiday season.
There's more than just swimming at the Hitchin Swim Centre
Swimming is fun, and it offers a great cardiovascular workout. However, some people would prefer to undertake other activities and the gym is likely to be one of the most popular destinations. The Archers Gym is well stocked with more than 80 state of the art fitness stations in the gym-suite. The devices come with my-wellness integration, while also having built-in televisions, games and internet connectivity.
These elements may keep you entertained as you work out, but the my-wellness integration is vital for those keen to track their fitness if you want to improve your health changes. There are also plenty of personal trainers to choose from at the gym. If you’re looking for personalised training, or you want a push in the right direction, there is a lot of support and guidance from trained and qualified professionals. One of the best things about membership for the club comes with access to the Lifestyles Programme, which provides a personalised plan for each member.
Join a Class
For some people, the best part of being in a gym is workout classes. If you are a social person, and you like to get fit and healthy alongside others in a fun environment, you have plenty of opportunities to do so.
There are more than 80 classes available each week, and there is something for all levels of fitness and enthusiasm. With yoga classes, dance classes, high-intensity interval training and many specialist classes, you’ll find something to suit you.
Of course, if you are a parent and all you want to do is relax while waiting for your children, there is a café where you can grab and drink and a snack. With the centre being at the heart of the local community, you can enjoy it at the level that best fits your needs and mood.
Hopefully, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself outside in the sunshine this summer in Hitchin, with the outdoor pool will be a big draw if the weather is good. However, whatever the weather, you can still have a brilliant time enjoying the classes and activities inside the Hitchin Swimming Centre and Archers Gym.
