The Kimpton Folk festival is in its 4th year and is held at Kimpton Memorial Hall in Kimpton, Hitchin. While folk music provides the main focus for the gathering, there is something for people of all ages. The festival has a range of tickets, granting access to various shows and parts of the day. Whether you just want to dip your toe in or you wish to immerse yourself in the event entirely, you can do so at a price that is right for you.

Choose the events that appeal to you most at the Kimpton Folk Festival

There is an afternoon session and an evening session, so you can pace yourself if you desire. Entry to the sessions are £20 with under 12s getting free entry with a paying adult.

The first Memorial Hall concert sees Kim Lowings & The Greenwood, Alden, Patterson & Dashwood, with this session running through to 14:30. There is then a break in the action in the Memorial Hall before acts return to the stage at 16:30. Glymjack and Edgelarks take the stage through to 18:30, which will close the afternoon sessions at this stage.

However, the Church Concert runs from 14:30 to 17:30, so there is plenty to see in between bands, or if you want to take in another act. Look out for Gilmore & Roberts, Odette Michell & Ninebarrow taking the stage in this session.

The evening concerts get underway with the second Church Concert session, which begins at 20:00 and runs through to 22:30. The acts you’ll find on this stage are Jess & Richard Arrowsmith, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, Melrose Quartet.

The evening Memorial Hall Concert runs between 20:30 and 23:00. Taking to the stage in the evening are the Smith & Brewer Band and Sheelanagig.

There are many free activities at the Kimpton Folk Festival

The great news about the festival is you don’t have to spend money to have fun. There are several free events and activities spread over the day, which means everyone can join in the fun this summer.

There will be entertainment on The Green from 11:00 through to 19:15. With choirs, surprise acts, duos, bands and a whole lot more, you should find that there is something for everyone.

If your tastes are more suited towards open mic events, make your way to The Boot. Between 12:30 and 18:00, there will be music sessions, open mic drop-ins and even a dance demonstration. If you are more of a performer yourself, this is the part of the festival that will appeal!

Fun for all the family

It can be difficult for families to find enough activities to keep everyone entertained, but the Garden Fields area will be a highlight for those looking for light-hearted fun and games. This area starts the action at 12:30, where there will be story sessions for children and grown us followed by a traditional dancing session.

Whether you are a kid wishing to learn new skills or an old-hand who wants to dust off some former glories, this could be a more than satisfactory way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The Garden Fields entertainment is rounded off by a yoga session.

Take part in music, song and dance workshops in Kimpton

It is always good to get involved in a festival, and there are several workshops to attend. There is a £5 charge for these events, but if you want to learn an instrument such as the ukulele, the tin whistle or even the spoons, you can do so right here. There will also be singing lessons and a French dance workshop to round the afternoon off. It never hurts to develop new skills and interests, and these workshops could be the start of something big!
