About Shefford

Sheep-ford known as Shefford is a busy market community with the friendliness of a village, located on the Herfordshire/Bedfordshire boundary. Shefford is surrounded by a number of beautiful villages that offer country living. Robert Bloomfield once lived there and published the well-known poem “The Farmers Boy” he is buried at All Saints churchyard in the nearby village of Campton. Shefford offers all the main local amenities you could require including a Morrisons store.

Shefford and the surrounding villages work on a three tier schooling system, most of the smaller villages offer a lower school, with the children then moving onto the middle schools and upper schools in the surrounding towns.

Our local area has many well-regarded local schools, from large academies to small village schools. The schooling is superb with many of the schools scoring good and outstanding Ofsted reports. Click here for the local authority website showing school catchment areas.

Chicksands is to the north of the town and was previously used as an American military base. Broom is a small village between Shefford and Biggleswade and has long since been a farming village offering a popular public house and Jordans Mill. Upper Caldecote is a halmet of Northill and sits alongside the A1(M)  Shillington has a public house and village store and provides easy access to the A6 to Luton and Bedford and to Hitchin via the scenic route.

Families will love Woburn Safari Park which is a great day out for the whole family and is situated in Woburn which is just a short drive away.If you’re an animal lover a visit to ZSL Whipsnade zoo is also well worth a visit and is a full day out. Perfect for children and adults alike.

Bedfordshire is served by some excellent road and rail links. The local bus service is brilliant too. A fantastic central location, close to the A1, which is the longest numbered road in the UK and will take you either south and into London or north as far as Edinburgh! Also, it is only around a 27-minute drive to the M1 junctions 12 or 13. All train commuters can use their closest mainline station at Arlesey, Hitchin, Biggleswade or Sandy where you can expect a journey of around 30-40 minutes into London Kings Cross and a similar train ride North to Cambridge.
