Royston School Boost Can Help Community

9th September 2021 posted in BUYERS TENANTS

Therfield First School in Royston might be one of the smallest schools in the country, but it has received a fantastic boost recently. At Country Properties, we understand the importance of great schools for the local community and the local housing market.

Therefore, we are delighted to learn that a company building homes at Hedera Gardens on Baldock Road have supported the local school. We know that more homes are needed in Royston, but the infrastructure must be in place when new homes are built.

Schools are vital for local housing markets

You cannot build new property without suitable roads, shops, transport connections, and of course, schools. Therefore, the move by Redrow South Midlands to provide a £1,000 donation to the school as part of a community fund initiative is fantastic news for the entire community.

The school will use the money to create a learning space, which has been referred to as “The Pod” at the school.

The Pod can host a whole year group of pupils at once, and it is an excellent way for small groups to work together without disturbing others. This space can also be used to offer help to pupils who require additional assistance.

Local community will benefit too

It is also believed that the school will use the space to host meetings, and it might even be offered to local community groups. If this creates a further bond between the school and the local community, all the better, and it is something we are keen to see happen more often.

Suzanne Irons, sales director for Redrow South Midlands, spoke to local media, saying; “Therfield First School came to us with an ambitious project – to provide children with an additional learning space and local people with a brand-new community hub – and we were thrilled to be able to help. It’s been a challenging year for many, so we’re pleased that this space is opening for everyone to enjoy, whether they’re local groups coming back together or pupils and their family receiving additional support. Initiatives like this are key to creating and supporting thriving communities, by giving people a space to engage, learn and grow. We have no doubt the learning space will leave the people of Royston with a long-lasting legacy.”

Tara McGovern, headteacher at Therfield Primary School, also spoke with local media, saying; “The learning space was years in the making, and we’re excited to be able to see first-hand the immediate positive impact that our new space has provided. Next year, the school will need to continue to focus on its recovery curriculum for pupils, following the pandemic. The Pod will ensure that we can offer a personalised, high-quality provision for groups and individual pupils. We’re one of the smallest schools in the country, so to have this additional space to support pupils and their families is fantastic. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Redrow team for their contribution.”
