It is easy to see that there is considerable excitement as people look forward to enjoying all the things they have missed out on of late.
Hitchin has so much to offer, and it is no surprise to see a local landmark has been named as the “most Instagrammable flower spot in the UK”. According to research carried out by Interflora, the stunning setting of Lavender Fields has received the most hashtags for any floral location across the UK.
It won’t be a surprise to learn many people are counting down the days until they see the lavender fields in full bloom again.
Bars and restaurants are bringing people together again
Of course, many people are keen to enjoy the simpler things in life, and are delighted to see so many local bars and restaurants serving customers again. While we are not close to returning to normal or how things were before the pandemic, it is great to see so much vitality in the local area.
The “Eat Alfresco” initiative in the local Market Place was a success last year, and it is positive to see this endeavour has returned as we head towards the summer of 2021.
The bars and restaurants who have outdoor areas can continue to flourish, but this scheme is a fantastic opportunity for the local businesses who have limited outdoor space.
Tom Hardy is the town centre manager for Hitchin, and he spoke to HertsLive about the scheme, saying; “It's been a bit of a lifeline for some of the restaurants. Especially for those who wouldn't normally be able to have anybody outside, it's been really helpful. It seems to be a waste to have the square empty.”
The Market Place has been welcoming people
There are three separate hospitality venues in the Market Place, which are Bar Azita, Halsey’s Deli and the Rose and Crown Pub. It has been claimed that the Rose and Crown pub enjoyed the third-highest intake in the UK for Monday 12th April! If true, this is a ringing endorsement for the area.
Nick Pike is the owner of Bar Azita, and he spoke to HertsLive, saying’ “It's been amazing and the weather's been fantastic. It feels very continental, like you see in other European countries who still have tables and chairs outside with heaters in the winter, it's been very successful so far.”
The Deroka Bar & Restaurant, located at 32 Sun St, Hitchin SG5 1AH, is a firm favourite in the area. It has achieved a score of 4.3 out of five from more than 220 Google Reviews. Also, in 2019, the restaurant was named The Mediterranean Restaurant of the Year for Hertfordshire, so it is a well-regarded venue.
This is a great example of a local venue which is open again, and helping people to connect with friends and loved ones.
Other examples of positively reviewed bars and restaurants (on Google) in Hitchin which are welcoming people again include:
