Simply the best estate agent in the area, professional, personable, perceptive and in touch with exactly what the local housing market is doing. Country Properties sold our house last year for more than expected, at a time when the market started to take a slight downturn. We had spent a long time selecting the right estate agent. We had done our homework on all the local agencies and online options and narrowed it down to two. Country Properties came out on top due to the staff, market share and consistent performance.P Elliott

Country Properties, and Joshua in particular, have been absolutely fantastic throughout the process of selling our home and purchasing our new one. No ask was too big - without prompting or chasing, Joshua and the team made sure to update me at every stage of the process - they were proactive and did everything in their power to help the process run as smoothly and as quickly as possible. Joshua in particular took the time to explain things that most people already know! His professionalism and patience has been greatly appreciated. I cannot thank Joshua and the team enough for all that they have done for us over the past few months. I would strongly recommend Country Properties to everyone I know!Ms I, Dabiran - Hitchin

Welcome to Hitchin. Hitchin is one of the few vibrant market towns in easy commutable range of Central London. The rail links to Kings Cross (amongst others) is less than 30 minutes at peak time and it is for this reason we are seeing more and more commuters calling our wonderful town, their home. As ‘Hitchinites’ we are fortunate enough to live in one of the coveted Times short list of Best towns to live in from 2013.
Hitchin has quite a history. The name is documented as far back as early as the 5th Century but it really got its name in 1086. The river Hiz runs through the town. In days gone by the z of Hiz was pronounced tch so we were the town on the River Hi’tch’… In time the name stuck and here we are… Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
Hitchin was a major trading centre for wool and corn and in the 19th Century we got our first regular visitors from London as our town was a major staging post for horse bound traffic heading to the ‘bright lights’ (read candles) of our Capital City, amazing how times don’t change!
Moving forward to the town of today. We still have a popular market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The market square is a beautiful example of a traditional market square which has many boutique shops and coffee houses. The square is often used for events and delicacies from overseas such as the Italian and French markets. We are a busy, vibrant and dynamic hub town with all the main high street names including Waitrose, M&S through to a much larger number of successful local independent stores that thrive. The diversity in the high street is rarely seen in today’s world and something of which we are all very proud.
We have a very happily, diverse community here with a notable presence from the Sikh community who hold an annual carnival celebrating Vaisakhi, which is a harvest festival.
Today, schooling and links to London are key factors when deciding on where to live. Most trains (and there are many), average a 30 minute trip to London. The schooling is fantastic with the three main secondary schools scoring Good or Outstanding in their latest OFSTED reports. It is for this reason that we see, month on month, more and more people look to move to Hitchin. If you would like to learn more about our town then we look forward to helping you find the right house to call your home
