Local customer reviews

I have very rarely experienced “above and beyond” like I did when I moved house with Country Properties. Moving from a shared ownership flat into a new build property meant that we were juggling a buyer, a housing association and a housing developer, working to an offer to completion deadline of 8 weeks, with all of the stress that came with it. Alex, Paul and the team could not have handled it better. They guided us initially with the optimal selling process, found us the right buyer in no time, and steered the ship like real experts. When setbacks occurred, ever mindful of the tight deadline, Alex was instantly on the phone advising us, chasing the relevant parties and going out of his way to ensure that nothing was derailed. I can honestly say that without this help our move would have fallen through at great cost to ourselves. I cannot recommend them enough.

DG - Hitchin

Gold star for everyone at Country Properties! Such a team of true professionals who leave no stone unturned. Well done to Alex, Becky and Jo. I wouldn’t be where I am without you.

LH - Hitchin

I am about to move into a new home. Through Jo's diligence and integrity, she managed to get me my dream home, she is a credit to the company and I would highly recommend using them. Thanks Jo, you're a star. My thanks to Pam too for all your help

J E-H – Hitchin

Country Properties Hitchin sold a development of 5 apartments. Whole experience was positive - crucially it is not just about the initial sale but vetting buyers and also seeing the transactions through. Would recommend.

MS – Hitchin

We’d like to thank Country Properties for helping with the sale of our house, they were very friendly, professional and very efficient, we can’t recommend them enough!

ST - Hitchin

I’m very satisfied with the professional service provided by Country Properties in Hitchin. From advertising and prospective tenant viewing they kept me informed at all stages.

Andrew – Hitchin

Our house sale was far from easy but Becky went above and beyond the call of duty to ease a pressured situation. She was doing her own job as well as the job of another local estate agent who let us down time and time again. She pushed them every step of the way. I am pretty sure if it wasn't for her tenacious attitude we wouldn't have completed our sale. Thank you!

Claire B - Hitchin

A great team at the Hitchin branch and very impressed how quickly my flat rented out! I will definitely be using Country Properties again!

Dom - Hitchin

Professional. Proactive. Positive. Local, trusted and genuine people who prove the often assumed negative stereotype wrong in their case. A pleasure to let via Country Properties Hitchin.

About Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Hitchin is a beautiful market town in Hertfordshire surrounded by popular villages. With both fantastic schools and fast commuter links to London and Cambridge, Hitchin is a popular location for families. There’s a great range of properties available both to purchase and rent.

The historic market town of Hitchin dates back over 1000 years and was originally built around the River Hiz. Hitchin has retained its market town feel with many fine Tudor and Georgian buildings, particularly around the historic town centre, together with the beautiful St Mary's Church, which is the largest parish church in Hertfordshire.

Hitchin’s train station gets commuters to London or Cambridge within just 30 minutes. This is a big pull factor for commuters who can benefit from both city and country life. Located between the M1 and A1, nearby cities are easily accessible by car too. Additionally, London Luton Airport is only 15 minutes from Hitchin, which is great for those wishing to travel for work or for pleasure.

The schools in Hitchin are fantastic, with three of the main secondary schools scoring good or outstanding in their Ofsted reports. This is a huge draw for families, in Hitchin itself and also its surrounding villages.

The town’s popular market takes place on Tuesdays and Saturdays within the beautiful, traditional-looking market square. Hitchin has a high number of local independent stores (including the Beer Shop), boutique shops, and coffee houses (such as Hitchin Coffee Lab with its own micro-roastery) to enjoy in a relaxed and tranquil setting. It also has some big high street names, including Waitrose and M&S.

Chia Naturally Healthy Café provides a fully vegan option for lunch, whilst The Groundworks offers locally sourced and sustainable lunch options. Residents enjoy Turkish food at Bosphorus, Thai food at Sukawatee, and there are several national chain eateries available too.

There’s plenty of entertainment to enjoy in the evenings, either watching performances at The Queen Mother Theatre or listening to live music at Hermitage Rd Bar & Restaurant.

The town has a long-standing history with lavender, dating back to the 1500s when it became an established grower of the product. It was grown for pharmaceutical reasons and Hitchin became one of the two largest producers in the country. Hitchin is also home to the country’s oldest independent pharmacy, Ransoms, which was set up by Henry Ransom in 1846. He distilled lavender and his product was so good that Queen Victoria stopped her train here so that he could present her with a bottle his essential oil. After lavender growing fell by the wayside in Hitchin in the 1960s, it was restarted by Hitchin Lavender in 2000, and there are now 30 acres of lavender grown here, which thousands of people visit each year when it’s in bloom.

Nearby, Knebworth House is a stately home with lovely walks in its grounds, and big concerts in summer. Barton Hills National Nature Reserve is a popular place to go for families and walkers.

Hitchin is a diverse town and enjoys celebrating Vaisakhi. This annual event originally celebrated the harvest festival, and has now also become the Sikh New Year and commemorates the founding of the Sikh community.

Hitchin is surrounded by many popular villages, including Kimpton, Whitwell, Offley, Breachwood Green, Lilley, Preston, Ickleford, Pirton and Holwell. Rolling countryside surrounds many of these beautiful locations, making them stunning places to live.
