A list of Hitchin December activities will inevitably have a festive feel. While some people are keen to get the Christmas celebrations started as soon as Halloween is over, most people can wait until the final month of the year.
There are December events in Hitchin that aren't Christmas related, but 'tis the season to be jolly, and there is no surprise at the many events will feature mince pies, mistletoe and glad tidings.
Get crafty this December
If you are keen to offer handmade presents, the Craft Night on Monday 2nd of December may be of interest. The Haberdashery, Bucklersbury, is the setting between 7pm and 9 pm, where you can enjoy crochet and knitting tutorials. Anyone looking to hone their craft skills in a way that will make Christmas come alive should check out the Christmas Wreath and Table Centre Workshop on Monday the 9th of December. The event takes place at Uva Wine Bar, and while there is a notable price tag for the event, this includes everything you need to create a Christmas wreath or a table centre decoration.
Attendees will also receive a glass of prosecco or a soft drink and a mince pie when they arrive. If you are keen to indulge in a traditional activity that will add a personal touch to your home this Christmas, this may be the event that helps you achieve your goals. If you are looking for a Christmas craft event that emphasises fun, The Radcliffe Arms on Walsworth Road plays host to The Creative Crafters on Wednesday the 11th of December. This event provides you with the chance to make and decorate a Christmas jumper decoration and a large ceramic Christmas tree light.
A Christmas Carol
On Thursday the 5th of December, in St Mary's Church, there will be a one-man performance of A Christmas Carol. This is one of the most endearing Christmas tales, and it has played a significant role in shaping what we consider to be a traditional Christmas. There will be plenty of seasonal refreshments, and you don't need to arrange tickets in advance.
The stylish surroundings of St Mary's Church lend themselves perfectly to this tale, and it should be a brilliant way for people to get the festive season off to a flying start. If you would prefer to see the show on Friday night, you can, as it is being performed again. On Friday, the event takes place at Wakelin & Son, a local coffee shop. The Friday night event is a ticketed performance, so make sure you arrange these online before attending the event.
Christmas at Woodside
A popular event for many Hitchin residents is the Christmas at Woodside event, presented by the Hitchin Thespians. This takes place on Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of December.
The event has gathered an excellent reputation in recent years, and many of the things you know and love will be on offer this year. Expect plenty of festive punch, mince pies, a seasonal atmosphere and lots of Christmas music.
Enjoy some Christmas magic
A lot of people think there is a touch of magic in the air at Christmas. If you head to Hitchin Markets on Biggin Lane, on Saturday 14th of December, you are sure to see some magic as there are three magic shows taking place. With appearances at 11am, midday and 1pm, you have plenty of chances to enjoy Matthew Garret dazzling and delighting his audience.
Matthew is a Gold Star Member of the Magic Circle, so you should expect some top-quality tricks and entertainment. There will also be Christmas gifts on offer at the traditional market, and raffle prizes up for grabs. If you are keen to win a Christmas hamper or you just want to enjoy a kid's party, this is a date for your diary.
Let the Christmas brass band shine and sparkle
Saturday the 14th of December is set to be a busy day, with the Christmas Brass event taking place at Christchurch on Bedford Road. The event starts at 7.30pm and features the Hitchin Band, the Hitchin Youth Band and the Hitchin Community Brass Band. All these groups are coming together to offer you three concerts in one, making it a spectacular night out.
This event has become a staple in the Hitchin Christmas calendar, so many people will already have it marked down as a night out. You can get tickets online or from Hitchin Information office, so there is no excuse for missing out.
Avoid the Christmas night out
The Friday before Christmas is always a busy and noisy night out. If you are looking to be out on the town that evening, but you would prefer to sidestep the madness, a gig at Club 85 may be what you are looking for. Mark Chadwick (The Levellers) is playing live, and it is sure to be an evening where you are surprised at how many songs you know.
There is a stellar supporting cast for the evening, so there will be plenty of songs and acts to enjoy, ensuring you have a brilliant night out where festive fun isn't at the forefront. We can't guarantee that there will be no Christmas merriment at the gig, but it isn't the only reason to leave the house.
You'll likely have a list of activities and parties to keep you busy in December, but it is excellent to know there are so many community events on offer. If you want to enjoy the most exceptional Hitchin December activities this year, we think you'll find these events of interest.
