Urban&Civiv have been appointed by Hertfordshire County Council as the development partner for new neighbours lying to the north and east of Baldock.
New homes could be on their way
It is believed that up to 3,300 new homes will be added to the area. This will be made up of houses and flats, and there is likely to be an element of affordable housing in the developments.
We also expect new roads, bus stops, schools and a country park. These are vital elements for any new development, with a new school likely to catch the attention of many people. The presence of a local school, with an opportunity to create a fresh and positive reputation will appeal to parents and households.
It is also believed there will be care facilities included as part of the development, which is something that is becoming increasingly important for communities across the country. As the population grows older, there will be a greater need for localised care facilities, so it is positive news that this sort of facility is included in plans for the local area.
What is being said about the plans?
Stephen Boulton, Cabinet Member for Growth, Infrastructure and Planning at Hertfordshire County Council, said to HertsLive, “This is a really exciting opportunity to build high-quality new homes in the north of Hertfordshire. We shall need to build over 100,000 homes in Hertfordshire over the next 15 years if we are going to keep up with the increases in local jobs and our population, and it is important that we do that in a planned way, which creates sustainable communities, respects our environment and complements our existing historic towns. We’re looking forward to working with Urban&Civic to deliver the new homes that people – particularly younger people – desperately need.”
Nigel Hugill, Chief Executive of Urban&Civic, spoke to HertsLive, and said; “We are thrilled to have been selected by Hertfordshire County Council as preferred development partner at Baldock. An urban extension of regional significance including a new country park, wrapping around a fine historic town with strong rail connections is absolutely what Urban&Civic is set up to deliver.
